RA-915 Lab installed at CEAC to support mercury monitoring in Cuba
January, 2026 – Cienfuegos, Cuba. The Cienfuegos Center for Environmental Studies (CEAC) has strengthened its laboratory's analytical capabilities with the installation of our RA-915 Lab mercury analyzer within the framework of the MERGE Project. This milestone was achieved thanks to the sponsorship of the Minamata Convention Secretariat's International Specific Program. This strategic addition aims to strengthen Cuba's national capacities for effective mercury management.
One of the key technical advantages of RA-915 Lab is its high selectivity and sensitivity in mercury detection, even at trace levels, thanks to Zeeman Background Correction. This is crucial for obtaining reliable results in environmental matrices, including biomonitoring, soil samples, and marine biota, which are key object for determining Hg levels in the Cuban environment.
The impact of RA-915 Lab extends beyond the current MERGE project and will serve as a fundamental support for ongoing and future mercury-related research at CEAC. Currently, the analytical capabilities of the mercury analyzer are being used to directly support the commitments of the Minamata Convention in Cuba and protect the country’s public health and environment.
